Playgrounds are more than just spaces for fun—they are powerful tools for learning and development. For children with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, ADHD, or processing disorders, the right playground design can strengthen foundational skills that translate into success in the classroom.

Join Stephanie Young, M.S., OTR/L, a pediatric occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience, as she explores how playgrounds can be intentionally designed to support neurological and motor development. Discover how specific types of play equipment help students regulate their bodies, improve motor planning, develop coordination, and enhance cognitive processing—all while having fun. Learn how movement-based play strengthens learning pathways, fosters self-regulation, and creates inclusive spaces where all children thrive.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

List three types of learning disabilities that can be supported by an intentionally designed play space.
Select equipment that provides play experiences which help a student's academic journey.
Design play spaces that provide dynamic learning opportunities and exploration.
Provide school staff or community members with inclusive activities to prepare children for learning.
